Larry Gatlin to perform at Daytona State College Foundation benefit for new Mike Curb arts college

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Nov. 17, 2008) - Enjoy a slice of country-style entertainment by music legend Larry Gatlin when the Daytona State College Foundation hosts its 17th annual fundraising kickoff event on Friday, Nov. 21, at the News-Journal Center in downtown Daytona Beach.

A 6:30 p.m. reception will precede Gatlin’s 8 p.m. performance. Tickets are $40 per person. Proceeds will benefit the newly established Mike Curb College of Arts, Music and Science at Daytona State.

Curb is one of the most prominent figures in the music entertainment industry. He presides over Curb Records, the largest independent record label in the country, and has launched the careers of such stars as LeAnn Rimes, Tim McGraw, Wynona Judd and Hank Williams, Jr. Curb also is a founding member of the acclaimed ‘60s vocal group the Mike Curb Congregation. Over the years, he has written more than 400 songs, produced 25 gold or platinum-selling records, and received countless music industry awards. Curb also served as lieutenant governor of California from 1979-1983, serving as acting governor from 1980-1982, and was the youngest person ever to serve on the Republican National Committee Executive Committee. He also co-chaired the California campaigns of Presidents Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford.

Curb recently gave the Foundation its largest gift ever, which will provide capital support and assist with the creation of new degree programs at Daytona State College dedicated to the music, entertainment and event planning industries.

Gatlin, who recently signed with the Curb Record label, is known for the string of pop-inflected hit country songs he recorded during the 1970s and ‘80s. During this time, country music trended heavily toward polished pop music arrangements in a style that came to be known as Countrypolitan. He has a total of 33 Top 40 singles, including solo recordings and those with his brothers Steve and Rudy.

Tickets for the event may be purchased online at www.DaytonaState.edu/foundation, or by calling (386) 506-3195.
