SBDC atDaytona Stateto host free disaster planning workshops
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (June 12, 2008) - Small business owners interested in fending off economic damage caused by disasters should plan to attend one of two free workshops being offered June 25 by the Small Business Development Center at Daytona Beach College.
Presented by certified business analysts, Robert J. Goetz and Gene Romagna, the workshops will explain the strategies and tools small businesses need to effectively plan for operating after disasters strike. Providing participants with a quick "disaster plan in a box" applicable for whatever disaster - natural or man made - that might be thrown our way, these workshops are designed to explain the strategies and tools for disaster planning required by small businesses to reduce economic damages. Critical components of business continuity planning and insurance will also be discussed.
"This is a hands-on, interactive presentation designed to ensure participants leave with plan in hand," said Ned Harper, SBDC director. The workshop is more of a checklist for hardening the storefront before a disaster it's about how to develop strategies that will help owners stay in business after a disaster strikes. Many businesses fail following a disaster because they are unable to deal with changes in their normal supply and distribution channels, or they are unprepared to adapt to shifting market conditions."
The first workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, June 25, from 7:45 to 9:15 a.m. in bldg. 2, room 109A at DBC's New Smyrna Beach-Edgewater Campus, 940 Tenth Street, New Smyrna Beach. The second workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, June 25, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce, 20 Airport Road, Suite C, in Palm Coast.
The sessions are sponsored by the Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce and the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce.
