Senior VP at Daytona State College delivers keynote at BTVI commencement
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (July 14, 2008) – For the last 10 months Dr. Charles Carroll, senior vice president for Planning, Development and Institutional Effectiveness at Daytona State College, has been working with the Bahamian government and the Inter-American Development Bank to restructure and revitalize the Bahamas Technical Vocational Institute. During the BVTI’s recent commencement exercises held in the Nassau, Bahamas on June 26, Carroll challenged the 204 members of the graduating class to “embrace a strong work ethic, become an expert at problem solving, and demonstrate professionalism in everything they do.” The commencement theme was “Building the 21st Century Workforce.”
In October last year, a $1.01 million contract was signed, and Daytona State and its partner, the Academy for Educational Development in Washington, D.C., were officially awarded the consultancy contract for “Restructuring, Repositioning, and Reorganizing the Bahamas Training and Vocational Institute.” This project is part of a larger Inter-American Development Bank loan to the Government of the Bahamas to restructure its education systems. Daytona State and AED were selected from a competitive bidding process to act as consultants to the BTVI project.
The three-year contract will conclude in 2010 at which time the goal to fully align BTVI with industry needs and standards regarding the construction, hospitality and information technology industries, will be realized.
